What Neto Actually Does

RouterOS gives you an excellent view of what’s happening at the router — Torch, the Bandwidth Test tool, the wireless registration table, interface counters. What it doesn’t give you is a continuous, historical record of what a device sitting in a specific room, on a specific band, actually experiences over time.

Neto fills that gap. It’s a small, self-hosted device that joins your WiFi like any other client — not a router plugin, not a MikroTik package, just another device on the network — and runs a full test cycle every 5 minutes, around the clock, on both bands independently.

ℹ Neto and MikroTik aren’t competing for the same job. RouterOS is still doing the routing, the firewall, the QoS, the VPN. Neto just adds the one thing that’s genuinely hard to get from the router side: a continuous, client’s-eye record of what the WiFi is actually delivering, band by band, over time.

Download & flash

Download the Neto disk image and write it to a microSD card with Raspberry Pi Imager or balenaEtcher. About 5 minutes.

Power it on

Insert the card and power up the device. It boots automatically and creates a setup hotspot if there’s no ethernet connected.

Open a browser

Visit neto.local:8080 from any device on the network. A guided setup wizard handles the WiFi details — done in under 2 minutes.
